TL;DR make sure your meeting host has "Record to computer files" enabled in their Zoom account settings:
The "Restricted Data" error means that Read did not get permission from the meeting host to record the call. This is a requirement for Zoom specifically, as Zoom doesn't allow anyone to record a meeting without the host's approval.
This could have happened because the meeting host saw and denied Read's request. But more likely, it's that whoever created the meeting did not have the correct settings enabled in Zoom.
When Read first joins a Zoom call, it will immediately try to get permission to start recording from the host:
-
If you are the host (and also invited Read), then you shouldn't actually see the request:
- As long as your Zoom account is connected to your Read account, your request should be automatically approved.
- However, if your Zoom settings aren't configured to allow recording to computer files, this request will be automatically denied and you'll get the "Restricted data" error.
-
If someone else is the host, then they should see a notification pop up in their Zoom application to grant Read recording permission.
- If the host denies or ignores this request, Read won't be able to record and you'll get the "Restricted data" error.
- If the host's Zoom settings aren't configured to allow local recording, this request will be automatically denied and you'll get the "Restricted data" error.
