This page gives an overview of Readouts. If you're ready to turn on Readouts, see How can I get email and messaging reports (Readouts)?
What are Readouts?
Readouts summarize your emails and chat messages alongside your meetings, to help you stay organized and on top of your inbox. Readouts currently support Gmail and Outlook for email, and Slack and Microsoft Teams for messaging.
On the Free plan, you get Readouts for 14 days. After that, you'll need a paid plan to keep getting them. Paid plans have unlimited access to Readouts. See Why am I not getting Readouts (email and messaging reports)?
Readouts are generated automatically, based on the significant topics or workstreams that Read's AI models detect in your communication. This lets you easily track progress on the major themes or projects that are most relevant to your work.
To see only your Readouts, select Topic Readouts in the Type filter on your Reports page:
Contents of a Readout
Starting from the top and moving down the page, you'll find:
- Summary: A recap of what has been discussed for this topic.
- Takeaways: The action items and key questions identified from your conversations about this topic. By default, these are sorted by relevance to you, but you can also sort them by time. You can also click the Ask Read links on individual takeaways to search all your meeting content and connected sources for answers.
- Recent Conversations: A timeline of the updates and takeaways, in chronological order going back to the beginning of the report.
On the right side of the report, you'll see a panel with two tabs:
- Overview: The number and type of sources (for example, how many email threads, messages, or channels were used to generate this report), along with keywords associated with the report and a list of who contributed to it.
-
Sources: Where you can dig into the actual sources of information in the Readout.
- By default, this tab shows the email threads or messaging channels that contributed to the report, with links to view them in the source app.
- When you click an item in the report, like an action item or key question, the Sources tab shows the relevant excerpt from the email or message behind that item, with a link to view it in the source.
Privacy and security
We know emails and messages often contain private and sensitive information. Privacy and security have been core principles at Read from day one. To learn more, see our Trust Center and Security & Privacy Overview.
By default, Readouts are not shared with others and are completely private to your account. You can choose to share them with other Read users (or un-share them later) using the Share button at the top of the report.
