Action Required: You will need to connect your Zoom account to Read in order to continue capturing your Zoom meetings.
What's changing?
Zoom is implementing new security policies that require all meeting bots to be explicitly authorized by an authenticated Zoom user. This means Read can no longer join your meetings unless you connect your Zoom account.
Additionally, Read will no longer be able to join your Zoom meetings unless you are present in the meeting, and are logged into the Zoom account you have connected to Read. The Zoom account does not need to be a paid account, free Zoom accounts will work.
What do I need to do?
Connect your Zoom account to Read. Once connected, Read's bot will join meetings on your behalf with proper authorization, ensuring your meetings continue to be captured without interruption.
How do I know if I'm affected?
You may have already connected your Zoom account, either as a sign-in method (SSO) or as a calendar integration. You can check this by navigating to your Profile & Account settings page or the Zoom integration page respectively.
- If Zoom appears in "Sign-In Methods" OR is "Active" in Your Integrations → you are all set
- If not → follow the steps below to connect your account
How do I connect my Zoom account?
The best way to connect your Zoom account is by connecting the Zoom integration:
- Go to Integrations > Zoom
- Click on the "Connect" button
- Complete the authorization with Zoom
Alternatively, you can add Zoom as a sign-in method by going to the Add Sign-In Method page, however this alone will not provide the full benefits of connecting the integration.
What exactly happens with this change?
If you have not connected your Zoom account, Read will not be able to join or record any of your Zoom meetings.
Even once you've connected Zoom, Read will no longer be able to join or record any Zoom meetings that you are not present in. That means you can no longer just "send" Read in your place to a Zoom meeting - you must be in the meeting, and logged into the Zoom account connected to Read, in order for Read to record that meeting.
Why is this happening?
Zoom's new policy aims to:
- Give meeting hosts more control over which AI meeting assistants can join their meetings
- Provide meeting hosts more visibility into whose AI meeting assistants are joining meetings
What are the other benefits of connecting your Zoom account?
When the Zoom integration is connected, Read can:
- Join meetings you host automatically with recording permission already granted
- Join Zoom meetings hosted by other people more reliably by:
- Satisfying the meeting host's "authenticated users only" restrictions
- Reducing the need for hosts to manually admit Read AI
I don't have a paid Zoom account, would a free Zoom account work?
Yes, a free Zoom account would work too. To make sure that Read joins, you must join the meeting with the same Zoom account connected to your Read account.
