This article covers just the Meet-specific issues, so if you haven't already reviewed Why didn't Read join my meeting? you are strongly encouraged to do so.
If you have Read configured to join your Google Meet calls (automatically or manually), but you're not seeing it join or even try to join when you get on the call, or it just says pending permission, you may not have permission to allow Read (an uninvited guest) to join the meeting. Even though you copied the join link and manually added Read, someone still has to admit it to the meeting, it is still depending on the permissions. In this case, after the meeting is over, you should see the meeting listed on your Incomplete reports page with the message "Read not admitted to the meeting within 10 minutes of scheduled start time."
Whether Read requires permission to join or not depends on who created the meeting.
| If the Meet creator is on a personal @gmail.com account, they are the only one who can admit uninvited guests (i.e. Read) to the call. Make sure you are logged in to your gmail account when joining your meetings. |
Read captures Google Meet meetings using one of two methods. It is important to know which method you choose on your Read AI account, because they require different Google Meet settings in order for Read to be able to join your meeting. Here is how to find out:
-
Method 1: using Google's native recording and record using Read's Google add-on.
- Go to your Account Settings > Meeting Recording: if the "use Google's native recording" is enabled, please go to the other article instead: Requirements for using Google's native recording
-
Method 2: Read joins as a bot (as a meeting participant).
- if the "use Google's native recording" is disabled or not showing at all.
- Then you are at the right place, this article is about the settings required for Read to join as a bot.
Video call options: Open or Trusted
If the meeting creator belongs to a Google Workspace
If the Meet creator belongs to a Google Workspace (has a work or school Google account), then their Google Workspace settings will determine whether Read can join on its own or whether it needs to ask to be admitted.
Only Google Workspace admins can view and change this setting, but you can read Google's instructions here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/13722774?hl=en
Unless the meeting access type is set to "Open", Read will need to be admitted by someone in the same Google Workspace as the meeting creator. If you join a meeting hosted by someone from another organization, there is a good chance that only people from that organization will be able to see and approve of Read's request to join the meeting. Otherwise, no one will see the permission request from Read to join.
How to admit Read to your meeting
Read joins as a meeting participant. As of March 24, if your Google account is managed under a Google Workspace, you might not see a pop-up to admit Read. Instead, you have to click open the "Waiting to join" list to admit Read, refer the animated image below:
