Using Ask Read is a free, convenient, and powerful way to up your Slack game. After setting up the integration, you'll be able to search, ask questions, and submit prompts to receive answers generated using not only your Slack messages, but also your meetings and any other integrations you have enabled for Ask Read. And with Read's Slack app, you can do this all directly from within Slack.
How to set up
It only takes a few steps to set up:
-
Connect Push to Slack from your Integrations page.
- See Enabling Push to Slack for your account for details
- Connect Slack Sync to Read from your Integrations page.
- While this isn't technically required to use Ask Read from Slack, you will need this if you want your results to include your Slack messages. Otherwise you'll only be searching over your meetings and other connected integrations.
-
Read AI should appear automatically under your Apps, but if not, you can just search for it (e.g. using ctrl+K on Windows/cmd+K on Mac) and then it will get added.
- Alternatively, you can go to https://slack.com/marketplace/A04UUCUGESK-read-ai and click on "Add to Slack" and then "Open in Slack".
How to use
There are two ways to use Ask Read from Slack:
-
Navigate to the Read AI app (from the side navigation or search) and click on the "Chat" tab
-
Click on the Read AI icon from the Agents menu in the top right corner of Slack:
The agent view is nice because you can keep it open in a panel on the right side while you navigate around other channels and DMs.
From either of these places, you can ask Read AI questions, just like you're chatting with a person (it may take a moment to process and respond to each message). Please also note a couple of details:
- This currently does not support ongoing chat threads, each query is separate (Read AI won't remember context from your previous query).
- All of your questions and answers will get saved in your search history on Read AI, unless you disable the search history setting.
