Using Ask Read in Slack is a free, convenient way to get answers without leaving Slack. After setting up the integration, you can search, ask questions, and submit prompts, and get answers based not only on your Slack messages, but also on your meetings and any other integrations you've turned on for Ask Read. With Read's Slack app, you can do all of this directly in Slack.
How to set up
It only takes a few steps to set up:
- Connect Slack from your Integrations page.
- See Enabling Push to Slack for your account for details.
- Turn on Search Slack Messages with Read in the Slack Integration Settings on your Integrations page.
- This isn't technically required to use Ask Read from Slack, but you'll need it if you want your results to include your Slack messages. Otherwise, you'll only be searching your meetings and other connected integrations.
-
Read AI should appear automatically under Apps in Slack. If it doesn't, search for it (for example, with Ctrl+K on Windows or Cmd+K on Mac) and it will be added.
- You can also go to https://slack.com/marketplace/A04UUCUGESK-read-ai, click Add to Slack, and then click Open in Slack.
How to use
There are two ways to use Ask Read from Slack:
- Go to the Read AI app (from the side navigation or search) and click the Chat tab:
- Click the Read AI icon in the Agents menu in the top right corner of Slack:
The agent view is handy because you can keep it open in a panel on the right side while you move between other channels and DMs.
From either place, you can ask Read AI questions just like you're chatting with a person (it may take a moment to respond to each message). A couple of things to know:
- Ongoing chat threads aren't currently supported in Slack. Each question is separate, so Read AI won't remember context from your previous question.
- Your questions and answers are saved in your Ask Read chat history (on the Ask Read page, click All Chat History under Recent Chats), unless chat history is turned off. To turn chat history on or off, go to Account Settings > Ask Read. If you're in a Workspace, your admin may control this setting for everyone. See Using Ask Read to search your meetings and connected apps.
