Overview
Teams Daily Summaries provide automated, concise recaps of the most important conversations and updates from your Microsoft Teams chats and channels. These summaries help you and your team stay aligned on key topics, decisions, and action items—without having to review every message.
This feature is available to all Read AI users who connect Teams, including those on the Free plan, however Free users will need to log into Read regularly to re-enable their Ask Read AI setting, or else Read AI will stop processing new Teams messages.
Prerequisites
- Microsoft 365 or Teams Account: To use all features, you must use a work or school (not personal) Microsoft account. Personal Microsoft accounts (e.g., @outlook.com, @hotmail.com) can be connected but summaries will be limited to chats (no channels).
- Read AI Account: Sign up for Read AI using Microsoft SSO or connect your Microsoft account after registration.
-
Connect Teams and Read AI: Connect your Read AI account with Microsoft Teams to enable the feature
- Permissions: Channel access requires admin approval (only needs to be approved once for the entire tenant)
How Teams Daily Summaries Work
- Each day, Read AI analyzes new messages in the chats and channels from your connected Teams account.
- Summaries highlight:
- Major discussion topics
- Decisions and outcomes
- Action items and owners
- Notable announcements or updates
- Summaries are organized by channel, making it easy to review what matters most.
How You Can Receive Teams Daily Summaries
There are three ways to access your Teams Daily Summaries:
- Read AI Web App (on the Reports Page)
- Once the Teams Sync to Read integration is connected, Daily Summaries automatically appear on your Reports page alongside meeting reports and Readout topics.
- No additional setup is required, and this option cannot be disabled.
- You can filter the Reports page to show or hide Daily Summaries from your list.
- Direct Message (DM) from Read AI in Teams
- You can opt to receive your Daily Summary as a direct message from Read AI in Teams.
- This setting is managed in the Push to Teams integration.
- The DM covers the same content as the web app report, summarizing all channels and chats you have access to (organized by channel).
- This option is user-specific and can be enabled or disabled at any time.
- Channel Message from Read AI in Teams
- Read AI can post a summary directly to a Teams channel.
- This summary includes only the activity from that specific channel.
- Channel summaries can be enabled or disabled for each channel via the Push to Teams integration settings.
- These settings are shared across all Read AI workspace members connected to the same Teams instance.
- Any channel member, even those without a Read AI account, can opt out of receiving these summaries by clicking the opt-out link included in each summary message.

- Filtering and Managing Summaries
- Use filters on the Reports page to show or hide Daily Summaries.
- Channel summary messages can be opted out of by anyone in the channel via the link in the summary message (no Read AI account required).
Additional Details & Best Practices
- Privacy: Summaries only include content from chats and channels you have access to.
- Configurability: DMs and channel messages can be enabled or disabled as needed. Web app summaries are always available once Teams Sync is connected.
- Workspace Settings: Channel summary settings apply to all workspace members connected to the same Teams instance.
-
Timing:
- Daily Summaries get generated around 8:00 AM, based on your account's time zone setting (which can be updated under Account Settings > Profile & Account).
- If Daily Summaries are enabled for a channel with Read AI users in different time zones, the most common time zone will get used.
- Daily Summaries are not generated on Saturday or Sunday, but the Monday summary will cover any messages since the previous summary on Friday morning.
