The Read AI add-on for Google Meet lets you:
- Start recording a meeting that's already in progress, or an instant meeting
- Use the live meeting dashboard for real-time notes, transcription, metrics, and other meeting tools (see Using Read's live meeting dashboard)
- Use Ask Read during the meeting, right in the add-on
The add-on records with Read's Google Meet native recording, so no bot joins your call.
Installation
Step 1: Install the add-on
During a Google Meet call, open Meeting tools.
If you don't see Read AI, click + and search for it. You can also install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
Click to install, then follow the prompts to connect your Google account.
Step 2: Open the add-on and sign in
If the add-on doesn't open on its own, open Meeting tools and find it under Installed add-ons.
Sign in to your Read AI account, or create a free account if you don't have one.
Step 3: Allow recording
The first time you sign in, you'll be asked to give Read AI access to record your Google Meet audio and video. Read needs this to capture and summarize your meetings.
If you can't grant this permission, your Google Workspace admin may have turned this feature off. See Why is Read not joining my Google meetings after I integrated Google Meet?
Step 4 (optional): Connect your calendar
Click Connect Calendar to connect your Google Calendar, so Read starts recording your meetings automatically at their scheduled start time.
Someone in the meeting still needs to approve Read's consent request before it starts recording.
Recording a meeting with the add-on
- Start or join a Google Meet call.
- Open the Read AI add-on from Meeting tools.
- Click Start Recording. If you've connected your calendar, Read can start on its own.
- Someone in the meeting approves the consent request. Read then starts recording.
For who can approve the consent request, how to stop recording, and how to opt out, see Using Read's Google Meet Native Recording.
Invite others to use the add-on: Once Read is recording, you can start a collaborative session. When asked Start Collaboration?, click Yes. Everyone in the call then sees a button to open the add-on.
After the meeting, you'll get a report with the summary, transcript, action items, and more, in your Read AI account and by email.
Using the add-on as a participant
If someone else started recording with Read AI, you can still open the add-on to see the live dashboard. If they started it manually, or you weren't invited to the meeting, you may need to ask them for access to the dashboard.
